How it works
SkinSmooth™ is the newest addition to the Sciton® BBL® HEROic™ platform. It pairs a dedicated 640S filter with the system’s Intelligent Control™, which shapes each pulse of light so energy arrives evenly across the area being treated. Where the other BBL® settings work on pigment and blood vessels, SkinSmooth™ is aimed at the quality of the skin itself: the appearance of pores, the fine lines that gather around the eyes and mouth, and the crepey texture that develops on cheeks, neck and arms.
It is most often added to the end of a BBL® HEROic™ session, where it takes a further three to five minutes and needs no numbing, though it can also be booked on its own when texture is the main thing you want to work on. Many patients find the skin looks smoother and reflects light better over the following days, and texture keeps responding across a course of sessions. Is SkinSmooth™ an add-on or a treatment on its own?
Both. It is most often used as the finishing step at the end of a BBL® HEROic™ session for pigment or redness, adding three to five minutes to the appointment. It can also be booked as a standalone treatment when skin texture is the main concern.
How long does it take, and does it need numbing?
Added to an existing BBL® HEROic™ session it takes a further three to five minutes, and no numbing is required. Most people describe the sensation as brief warmth against a cooled handpiece.
What does it actually treat?
Texture rather than colour: the appearance of pores, fine lines around the eyes and mouth, and crepey skin on the cheeks, neck and arms. Pigment and visible vessels are the job of the other BBL® HEROic™ settings, which is why the two are so often combined in one appointment.
When would I notice a difference?
Skin often looks smoother in the first few days after a session. Texture and pore appearance respond gradually, so a course is usually planned rather than a single visit. How your skin responds is reviewed at follow-up, and the plan adjusted from there.
